- What is Flixify?
-
Flixify is a company that empowers women in the digital age by instructing them how to capture, edit, and share their home movies and digital video files. Second (and this is the fun part), Flixify brings video scrapbooking to the masses. Scrapbooks by their very nature are static, but videos move and now the embellishments move too. Our team of designers and animators create theme kits that you use to turn your home movies into professional-quality video scrapbooks.
As the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words." We up the ante by asking, "How much is a video worth?" Today's technology allows us to effortlessly capture life's best moments, but capturing is the easy part. Imagine having the most priceless ruby in the world, but not being able to share it with anybody.
Home movies are priceless gems. They are like diamonds to be worn for all to see, so why are they hidden from not only the world but from those who need them the most? From the children that would grow stronger in love towards their family by reliving the happy times of their lives. It's easy to remember the bad times, but a lot harder to remember all that is good about your family. Watch just one old home movie of a happy occasion and it will change your outlook on the day. Watch one every week...and it will change your life.
- How do you pronounce Flixify?
-
It's actually quite phonetical, as in flix⋅i⋅fy. Flix is pronounced like 'flicks' and the ify makes the same sound as it does in 'simplify'. Not only is Flixify a noun, but we were told early on by some scrappers in California that they started to use it as a verb, as in "Did you flixify that video clip yet?". It stuck, so you'll catch us using it as a verb a lot.
- What is video scrapbooking? Is it new?
-
Scrapbooking has been around in one form or another for ages (for all we know, there are hieroglyphic scrapbooks!). In the last several years, digital scrapbooking, or scrapbooking with digital photos on the computer, has gained a respectable chunk of the scrapbooking market. Video scrapbooking is an exciting form of scrapbooking that combines the creativity and skills of digital scrapbooking with home movies and digital video files. Professional scrapbook kit creators have teamed up with our video animators to create motion theme kits that you use in the same way you would use paper or digital embellishment kits.
- What is the difference between video editing and video scrapbooking?
-
Video scrapbooking is a form of video editing, focusing on turning home movies, photos, music and motion theme (embellishment) kits into video scrapbooks and keepsakes. Our team of professional video editors and producers have teamed up with professional scrapbook embellishment kit producers to create an atmosphere for scrapping with one of the most underused, but highly valued assets you own - your own home movies.
- Isn't editing home movies really complicated?
-
You might be surprised. We've taught our Digital Video Fast Track series in person to women of all ages with incredible success. As with most things that appear difficult, a fundamental understanding of the basics skills involved tend to quickly knock down the initial barriers. As far as we are concerned, there is nothing that professional video editors can do that a determined video scrapbooker can't learn. For comparison, some of the most talented users of the complicated photo editing software program Adobe Photoshop are scrapbook hobbyists and work-from-home moms. Give video scrapbooking a try and see what you can do!

- What is the Digital Video Fast Track Series?
-
The Digital Video (DV) Fast Track is a step-by-step video training series that introduces you to the basics of video editing in preparation to becoming a video scrapbooker. Most people do not have the slightest clue how to get the video from their VHS or camcorder tapes onto their computer, let alone compile clips, add music and effects, and burn to DVDs or upload to the Internet.
We have broken down all the necessary steps into bite-sized chunks, ideal to be digested individually as your schedule permits. Because learning is an interactive process, we have made the video segments available online to be watched over and over until you are completely comfortable with the content. We have also created a personalized notebook for each video clip so that you can quickly type notes as you are watching and doing. Forgot how you did a particular step? Just quickly look it up in your notebook and you'll be on your way!
- What are theme kits? Are they like embellishment kits?
-
Yes, they are just like embellishment kits. We use the terms somewhat interchangeably. Just as in traditional and digital scrapbooking, embellishment kits provide a central way to use your creativity to style, theme and design specific pages for your scrapbook. Our theme kits play the same role in video scrapbooking. We have teamed up with professional digital theme kit creators to provide video theme kits that look and act just like embellishment kits, but have been further enhanced by our team of professional motion and video editors to be used within video editing software.
By joining Flixify, you will automatically receive one or more theme kits each month to be used for video scrapbooking with your home movies. Additional theme kits are available for purchase if you want to scrap with more kits during the month. We are continually bringing on new kit designers, so keep an eye out for a growing diversity in the style and feel of our theme kits.
- What are Buddy Passes and why would I want them?
-
We put together a unique twist on the traditional website membership by allowing you to add friends to your account at no additional cost (only available on certain plans). You can use a buddy pass as a gift or you can split the bill with a friend; it's up to you. The point is, all users on your plan will have full access to the Fast Track Series, their own personal notebooks, access to download the monthly theme kits, etc. Don't learn and scrap alone! Start using your buddy passes today!
- What are the Live Q&A Sessions?
-
The main advantage of taking a live training class is that you have an instructor to interact with. The disadvantage is that when you leave the class, you don't have access to either the instructor or the content. Live Q&A Sessions are designed to give you the best of both worlds: 24-hour access to the training videos plus twice-weekly access to a live question and answer session with our instructors.
Participants in the Q&A session will have a chance to jump into the speakers queue where they can ask detailed questions using a microphone and an optional webcam. Wondering why the cable won't connect? Just hold it up to the camera and show the instructor live! If you don't want to talk in front of the group, just sit back and listen to the conversations or use the built-in chat window to interact with the group.
- What do I get with my free trial?
-
What don't you get is the question! We give you access to everything, including download access to the current month's theme kit(s). We want you to fully experience all that Flixify has to offer, including the video training segments, the forum, live Q&A sessions, personalized notebooks, theme kits, and more! Better yet, even if you decide to stick around and pay, we have a 100% satisfaction, money-back guarantee, so you have nothing to loose and everything to gain! If you haven't already, sign up for a free trial today!!
- I want more theme kits! Can I buy more than what I get in a month?
-
In the near future, we will begin selling additional theme kits, as well as prior months' theme kits, in an online store. As more kit designers begin submitting their work, there will be an increasing number of kits available to be downloaded immediately. Stay tuned!!

- What is the purpose of the Digital Video Fast Track Series?
-
We want you to become a confident video scrapper and editor. The Fast Track series is designed to get you up to speed as quickly as possible, yet give you flexibility to incorporate new skills as your schedule allows. Segments build on top of each other, and many can be learned in the order that interests you most. For example, you can learn to add effects before learning how to add photos to your video clips.
- I have lots of questions while watching the the segments. How do I get answers?
-
There are several options for getting answers to your questions. The list below provides an overview of your options:
- Community Forum: Use the forum to interact with the Flixify community. In addition to general topics, there is a forum for each specific video segment. This enables you to ask detailed questions about a specific step you are taking within the context of the segment you are watching. For quick reference, under each video segment is a tab labeled "Get Answers" that links you directly to that segment's forum page.
Go to the Flixify Forum - Resources Tab: Under each video segment, there is a Resources tab. This is full of resources pertaining to the specific video segment you are watching. You'll find links, tips, forum entries, etc. that will direct you to further your knowledge on a specific subject.
- Live Q&A Sessions: Twice a week our instructors hold live question and answer sessions for Flixify members. You will be able to interact with the instructors via microphone and/or text chat. Be bold and jump into the speakers queue or sit back and listen to all the questions being asked by others.
Visit the Live Q&A Room - Blogs and comments: We post regular blogs to http://flixify.com/blog that address topics that are of interest to Flixify members. There is a comment section below each blog where you can ask follow-up questions as well as post your opinions and experiences.
Read our Blog - Email: You are always welcome to send us a private question or comment to our email address help@flixify.com. We generally respond the same day, but your mileage will vary. Ideally, the forum is your best bet since other community members may be able to answer your question before we get to you, and you may also find that your question has already been answered.
Send us an email - Twitter: We use Twitter on a regular basis to send out news and updates, pass along good deals we come across, and provide occasional tips and tricks. We would rather you ask questions using one of the other options, but if you absolutely must tweet it, then we'll probably reply.

- I love the "My Notebook" tab under each video. Can other people see what I'm writing?
-
No, your Notebook is totally private. In the future we would like to add a feature for members to share their Notebooks with other members, so stay tuned. In the meantime, feel free to be as goofy or silly as you want with your notebook, we won't tell anybody ;-)
- Can I print out "My Notebook" so I can easily access it while editing?
-
Absolutely. In fact, that was a request by one of our users who wanted to be able to keep it next to their computer while editing. While in your Notebook, simply click the Printer icon and you will be presented with a popup window formatted for your printer. Simply print that page the same way you would print any webpage.
- Do I have to use Sony Vegas Movie Studio?
-
Actually, that's entirely up to you. We selected Sony Vegas for use in the Digital Video Fast Track Series because it is so widely used by video professionals, has an affordable consumer version, provides all the features necessary to do complex editing, and has a great track record for staying up-to-date with the latest hardware requirements. We highly recommend that you use Sony Vegas while learning the process of video scrapbooking. That said, we have designed our theme kits to work with all popular video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere (Win/Mac) and Final Cut (Mac).
We were excited to see that the readers of Lifehacker.com (one of our favorite blogs) voted Sony Vegas Pro (the pro version of Sony Vegas) as their most favorite software for editing video. Read the Lifehacker article
- How come I'm only seeing the first 60 seconds of each segment?
-
This means that you are on the Free plan, which only provides full-length access to a portion of the video segments. The remainder of the video segments have been shorted to only 60-seconds. To view all the full-length segments, you need to upgrade to one of our paid memberships. Check our plans and pricing and see what plan works best for you.
- Will there be additional video training series?
-
Yes! The Digital Video Fast Track Series is just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many topics that we want to teach, but we realize that most people need to start with the basics before digging deeper. Upcoming series will include:
- Fast Track for Mac Users
- Shooting High-Quality Video
- In-depth Video Scrapbooking
- Advanced Video Scrapbooking
- In-depth DVD Authoring
- Digital Media Management and Backup Solutions
Is there something you are interested in learning? Click on the pink "Feedback" link on the left of this browser window and drop us a few suggestions.
- What video hosting service do you use for the video training?
-
Our video hosting is provided by Ooyala.com. So far, we are very impressed with their services, the quality and speed of their video streams, and the flexibility they offer to website owners. Unlike sites like Youtube and Blip.tv, they charge money for video streaming, but they offer features that the free sites do not provide.

- If I sign up for a free trial, is it easy to cancel before I have to pay?
-
We think it is. Simply log into your account, click the Account link at the top of the page, then click on the Cancel Account link and follow the simple instructions.
- If I sign up for a subscription, is it easy to cancel?
-
Yes, just read the previous question and follow the same steps. By the way, we hope you are just wondering and not really cancelling :-( If you have specific concerns, we would love to hear them before you go. Feel free to send us an email at help@flixify.com
- Can I upgrade or downgrade my account?
-
At any time during the month, you can either upgrade or downgrade your account. At this point, we like to go by the honor system, but if we suspect you are changing your account simply to get more theme kits without paying then we'll call your mom...or something.
- I want to downgrade, but it won't let me.
-
The only time it will not let you downgrade is if you have added other users to your account via the Buddy Passes and you are trying to downgrade to a plan that doesn't support the number of Buddy Passes you are currently using. If that is the case, you will need to remove the appropriate number of users from your account before downgrading. Simply click on the Account link at the top of the page and go to the Manage Users tab and follow the instructions for removing a user.
- How do I add additional users to my account?
-
If you are on a plan that supports Buddy Passes, you'll definitely want to take advantage by inviting a friend or family member to get free access to all that you are enjoying. Simply click on the Account link at the top of the page and go to the Manage Users tab and follow the instructions for adding a new user. Don't forget to let them know about their new account info.
- If I add another user through a Buddy Pass, can they see my billing info?
-
No, they cannot see any info about your account; everything is private such as your email, billing address, credit card info, etc. Privacy is extremely important to us, so we treat your private information the same way we expect other websites to handle our own private information. In fact, we all have memberships on Flixify with our own credit card info so that we are subject to the same security concerns as our users.
- Who do I talk to about billing questions?
-
Please send us an email at help@flixify.com. We will respond to you as quickly as we can. We treat billing questions with high priority, so don't worry, your email will not get lost in the shuffle!
- For various and sundry reasons, I want a refund. What do I do?
-
Please follow the instructions on our 100% Satisfaction page. We'll do our best to make you a happy departing member.

About Flixify

We confess, Flixify was started by a couple of guys. We've seen moms and wives suffer from "digital pain" far too long.
We empower women in this all-digital age by teaching them to make creative use of their priceless memories.
We do the dirty work that most husbands dread or try to avoid ;-)
Watch some of the segments from the Digital Video Fast Track series:
Sony Vegas Movie Studio is a great, inexpensive software program with all the features necessary to make video scrapbooks and other video projects. Learn how to install and configure a free demo version of this software.
A must-watch for almost everybody! This lesson will empower you to be able to do something about that sinking feeling you get when you think about all of your precious memories stuck on VHS tapes.
The essence of editing is choosing your shots and then trimming them and combining them together to tell a story. You will see how easy it is to trim the edges back to leave only the best part of a clip.
Special effects used to be the realm of George Lucas and Star Wars but now you too can add excitement to your videos by learning to use the effects Movie Studio has to offer.
