What are Live Q&A Sessions

For years we have helped people learn how to work with home movies and digital photos. The energy and excitement are always so high as we walk individuals through the various steps. Then, the next time they try to complete the same steps, this time on their own, they inevitably get hung along the way. Frustration, stress, and anger ensues.

The Live Q&A sessions are the perfect answer. You get to join a discussion with our team of instructors and other members who are trying to accomplish the same steps as you. Whether you have the personality to grab the mic and ask your questions in front of a group of people, or you tend to sit in the background and listen to the dialog, you'll walk away with answers to your questions and having learned new tips and techniques to improve your scrapbooking skills.

An Overview of the Live Q&A Tool

At a minimum, you need either built-in speakers or external speakers connected to your desktop or laptop computer. You'll be able to listen to the verbal discussions and read the lively chat discussions. If you would like to participate in the audio/video discussions, you will need a microphone connected to your computer (some laptops have them built in). If you have a webcam, you can allow other people to see you as you talk.

The image below is a screenshot from a past Live Q&A session. The following numbered sections correspond to the red numbered circles on the screenshot and give an explanation of the Live Q&A interface:

(1) This is the Participant panel. It lists the moderator(s) at the top and all the participants below.

(2) The Current Speaker panel shows the name of the current speaker, a count-down timer of how much time to speak they have, and a live video stream from their webcam (assuming they have one; this is optional).

(3) The Mic and Cam buttons allow you to set up your microphone and camera to participate in the meeting. This is only necessary if you want to use the Speakers Queue to verbally participate in the meeting. Feel free to ask the moderator for help setting up your mic and camera.

(4) The Speakers Queue panel shows a list of participants who have requested to speak to the group. When the current speaker's time runs out or they end their turn manually, the next participant in the queue will automatically be placed into the Current Speaker panel to ask their question or provide answers to other participants.

(5) The chat window allows participants to carry on additional conversations via chat messaging. This is a great way to quickly give feedback to speakers as they are talking, or to have a dialog with other participants. Depending on the group, this can result in a thrilling, face-paced conversation!
