Imagine being able to take detailed, marked-up notes as you watch and learn each segment. No more sticky tabs on your monitor. No more hunting for a pen and paper to take notes. It's private, so feel free to be as silly as you want. (see example image below)

- Use a familiar tool bar (Word, Gmail, etc.) to make your notes personal and easy to read. There is even a print button for easy printing.
- Create links to sites that helped you address your specific problems.
- Make lists of the steps you took so that you never have to rely on your own memory ;-)
- See exactly when your notes were saved last so that you don't accidentally loose valuable information.

Joshua shows the steps for connecting an analogue capture device to your computer and then connecting a VHS or other player to it. With all the connections made he shows you how to open Windows Movie Maker and choose the appropriate settings for high quality video capture. He then demonstrates how to capture the video onto the hard drive and bring it into Sony Vegas Movie Studio so you can edit it and burn it to DVD.

The device shown here is a Pinnacle Dazzle Video Creator. There are a host of others that essentially do the same thing, allow you to connect your RCA cables from your VCR, VHSC camera or Hi8 camera to your computer using the USB port. It looks like a big fat adapter, but in fact these devices are changing your video into the digital language your computer can understand.
-
The reason for using Windows Movie Maker to capture the video instead of Sony Vegas Movie Studio is that Movie Studio will only capture from firewire devices. When you are capturing from a device connected to the USB port on your computer you have to use Movie Maker or the program that came with the device to make the initial capture.
-
It is extremely important to take note of where your captured videos are being saved. You will need to navigate back to this folder from inside Sony Vegas Movie Studio in order to import your newly captured movies into your project.
-
You want to choose the "High quality video (large)" setting so that you get the best possible capture of your analogue tapes.
-
Windows Movie Maker will create one large file for all the video that you capture. It might show up as multiple clips in the collection window in Movie Maker, but it is only one file that can easily be imported into Vegas Movie Studio for editing.
