Silver Tabs – Posted by HereKitty about 1 year ago
It is possible that your computer has snap out tabs. Just apply enough pressure to snap the tab out and you'll be ready to install your new card.

Imagine being able to take detailed, marked-up notes as you watch and learn each segment. No more sticky tabs on your monitor. No more hunting for a pen and paper to take notes. It's private, so feel free to be as silly as you want. (see example image below)

- Use a familiar tool bar (Word, Gmail, etc.) to make your notes personal and easy to read. There is even a print button for easy printing.
- Create links to sites that helped you address your specific problems.
- Make lists of the steps you took so that you never have to rely on your own memory ;-)
- See exactly when your notes were saved last so that you don't accidentally loose valuable information.

Don't be afraid, it really isn't that hard. If you have ever put together a model as a child, placing tab A into slot B, then you can put a firewire card in your computer no problem. Joshua explains how to open and handle the card, how to make way for its installation, and how to seat the card in its slot.
-
The technical term for firewire is IEEE 1394. Don't ask us why but that is the name. You will want to get a firewire 400 card called IEEE 1394A not a firewire 800 card which would be IEEE1394B. firewire 800 is a newer version and twice as fast as the 400 but all DV cameras with a firewire port work on the older 400 version.
-
Before you open your computer be sure it is unplugged. When you are in unfamiliar territory common sense is your best friend.
-
Some card slots have a small screw holding them in place. Have a small screwdriver handy when you are ready to install the card just in case you need it.
-
Don't do your computer repairs while standing in your socks on a shag rug and you won't have problems with static.
-
If your new card comes with instructions, follow them. If it tells you to install something from a disk before putting the card in, do it.
