Imagine being able to take detailed, marked-up notes as you watch and learn each segment. No more sticky tabs on your monitor. No more hunting for a pen and paper to take notes. It's private, so feel free to be as silly as you want. (see example image below)

My Notebook Example

  1. Use a familiar tool bar (Word, Gmail, etc.) to make your notes personal and easy to read. There is even a print button for easy printing.
  2. Create links to sites that helped you address your specific problems.
  3. Make lists of the steps you took so that you never have to rely on your own memory ;-)
  4. See exactly when your notes were saved last so that you don't accidentally loose valuable information.
  • Overview

I'm finished editing my video, now what do I do? First you need to decide where you want to share it and how you want to protect it for long term safety. In this tutorial Josh shows you how to make your movie small enough that it can be sent in an email. He then demonstrates how to post it on YouTube from right inside the Move Maker software. After that he explains how to and why you want to save a high quality copy of your movie onto your hard drive, and then he demonstrates how to create a simple DVD of your movie.

  • Loop Region
Double clicking on the loop region will make it turn blue, but even when it is not blue it still represents the region of your video that will be output if you choose to leave the "Render loop region only" check box checked.
  • Estimated Size
When outputting a movie to be sent as an email attachment pay attention to the "Estimated size." You probably don't want to send any move larger than 6 to 8 megabytes. In this window it shows up as KB or kilobytes, so 6 megabytes is the same as 600 KB.
  • Templates
You can choose from the "Template" drop down for an appropriate preset for encoding your video. The bigger the file, the better the quality, but be careful not to make it so big that it clogs grandmas mail box. Try and be sensitive when sending big files, if the recipient is using a dial up connection it might take them all day to download one movie.
  • YouTube
Posting your movie to YouTube is a great way to share it with family and friends and avoid the whole hassle of attaching it to an email. Once the video is on YouTube all you need to do is copy the "URL:" they give you on the right hand side next to your movie, and paste it into an email that you send to your family and friends. That link will lead them directly to your video where they can watch it immediately without downloading the whole thing first.
  • High Quality Backup
Saving an ".avi" version of your video is a smart way to keep a high quality backup of your work. The .avi format is going to create a large file size, because it applies little or no compression to the video as it saves it. This is good because less compression means better quality. If your hard drive starts to fill up with high quality .avi movies, consider burning them onto a data DVD or two for safe keeping or purchase an external hard drive and copy them there before removing them from your main hard drive.
